IPC Solder Products Value Council Lead Free Subcommittee Mission Statement

The IPC Solder Products Value Council, in supporting the electronics assembly industry, has recognized areas of concern related to lead free solders. The Council is united to resolve the confusion regarding alloy choice, and is devoted to achieving a worldwide consensus on the issue. This is not a mission to invent an alloy, but rather to select the best alloy relative to cost and supporting reliability studies and recommend its use. The Council will standardize on a single alloy, which in turn will reduce costs to the industry, benefiting solder suppliers and users alike. The companies that make up the Council will devote resources to improve the education, training and support of this alloy throughout the industry.
